From starting gate to starting over.

Blue Bloods Thoroughbred Adoption and Placement Inc., has partnered with Averett University since 2014 to host a course every fall semester that will prepare equestrian studies students for retraining off the track thoroughbreds. The course is a 3 credit hour, service-learning course that focuses on preparing the horse for a second career.

Cricket Stone Morris heads the class and carefully matches each student to the appropriate horse. The students are responsible for ground work, developing a bond with and progressing the horses undersaddle using both the forward riding system and the dressage training scale during weekly lessons. In past classes, students have taken their mounts trail riding, fox hunting, and even to local schooling shows.
